13 HAITIAN NATIONALS APPREHENDED DURING OPERATION
On Friday August 16th, 2019, (13) Haitian nationals inclusive of (7) Males and (6) Females were apprehended during an operation conducted by the Enforcement Unit led by Harold Thurston, Chief Immigration Officer. This operation commenced at approximately 5:30 P.M. and was carried out in the Central and Eastern districts of New Providence.
The subjects were escorted to Carmichael Road Detention Center for further investigation and processing. Total of (6) people were committed to the Detention Center for various immigration offences including Illegal Landing. They are expected to appear in court sometime this week.
In a separate incident, on Sunday August 18th 2019 Officers of the Enforcement Unit Grand Bahama district executed a search warrant at approximately 9:00A.M. at the Riviera Towers, Freeport which resulted in the arrest of (11) foreign nationals for various immigration offences.
The group consisted of (6) Indian nationals, (4) Brazilian nationals and (1) Haitian national who were found to have breached the Immigration Act and were subsequently transported to the Grand Bahama Immigration Office for further processing. It is anticipated that all persons will appear before the Magistrate’s Court this week to answer charges of Illegal Landing and Overstaying.
