23 FOREIGN NATIONALS APPREHENDED OVER THE WEEKEND BY THE DEPARTMENT OF IMMIGRATION
(11) Haitian nationals and (1) Jamaican national were arrested on Friday, 15th February, 2019 during an ongoing joint operation between Law Enforcement Officers of the RBPF, RBDF and the Bahamas Immigration Department at various locations throughout New Providence.
Additionally, on the same date a Haitian Male was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport shortly after disembarking a Bahamasair inbound flight from Matthew Town, Inagua.
In a separate incident a Jamaican national was also arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport after having been found to have overstayed his time given to him by an Immigration Officer.
On Friday 15th February, 2019 Officers of the Eleuthera District of the Department of Immigration conducted an island wide Apprehension Exercise in which a total of (9) Haitian nationals were arrested and later transported to New Providence where they are being housed at the Detention Centre.
It is anticipated that all persons will appear before the Magistrate Court sometime this week after further processing. We wish to remind the general public that we are committed to carrying out the mandates of our agency to combat illegal migration, by establishing effective border control management to ensure compliance with the Statute Laws of our Country.
