3 HAITIAN NATIONALS CONVICTED IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT
On July 18th, 2019, Haitian nationals namely Guerline Civil, 26 and Toni Kele, 40 appeared in Magistrate’s Court #11 before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux and were convicted of Overstaying and Illegal Landing respectively. Deportation was recommended.
Ms. Civil and Mr. Kele of Port-de-Paix, Haiti both pled guilty and were fined $1,000.00 each or in default of payment sentenced to (6) months at Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS). They were both arrested on Tuesday July 16th, 2019 during an operational exercise in New Providence by the Enforcement Unit, led by Harold Thurston, Chief Immigration Officer.
Additionally, Mr. Anorl Pierre, 51 of Port-de-Paix, Haiti appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux this afternoon and was convicted of Illegal Landing, under Section 19(2) of the Immigration Act 191. He was fined $950.00 or in default of payment sentenced to (1) month at BDCS. Fine was paid and subject was turned over to Department of Immigration for recommended deportation.
