56 HAITIAN NATIONALS CONVICTED IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT
On November 11, 2019 (50) Males and (6) Females appeared in Magistrate’s Court #2 before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux and were convicted of Illegal Landing. They all pled guilty as charged.
A check of the Border Control Management System revealed that (10) of the migrants convicted were repeated offenders and were fined $3,000.00 each, in addition to a one (1) year sentence at Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
The remainder of this group were ordered early deportation and turned over to Bahamas Immigration Department.
This group was intercepted on November 9, 2019, at approximately 2:30 PM near Deadman’s Cay, Long Island by Royal Bahamas Defence Force patrol craft, Cascarilla, and subsequently turned over to Immigration Officials for processing.The Department will continue its commitment to carrying out the mandates of our agency to combat illegal migration, by establishing effective border control management in compliance with the Statute Laws of our country.
