98 HAITIAN NATIONALS APPREHENDED IN THE EXUMA CHAIN
On Sunday 25th August 2019 a vessel was intercepted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force approximately 1:45P.M. 17 miles Northwest of Highbourne Cay in the Exuma chain with (98) Haitian nationals onboard.
This group, consisting of (78) Males, (15) Females and (5) minors were subsequently turned over to Bahamas Immigration Department and escorted to Carmichael Road Detention Center for processing. They are expected to appear in Magistrates’ Court sometime this week to answer charges of Illegal Landing.
The Department wishes to remind the general public that we are committed to carrying out the mandates of our agency to combat illegal migration by establishing effective border control management through pooling resources with other Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure compliance with the Statute Laws of our country.
