Department of Immigration Attends CEDAW Seminar on Promoting Gender Equality
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a seminar was held to bring awareness to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). This event was attended by Senior Immigration Officer Daina Burrows, Marion Bethel (Attorney and Vice Chairman of CEDAW), Ordette Wells-Simms (Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Immigration & National Insurance), and Shavonne Symonette (Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance).
The session focused on educating attendees about CEDAW’s objectives and its importance in promoting gender equality and eliminating discrimination against women.
