On Wednesday, November 27 and Thursday, November 28, 2024, the staff of the Department of Immigration participated in an intensive Psychological First Aid training session, organized by the Bahamas Psychological Association. This two-day workshop was specifically designed to enhance the skills, expertise, and resilience of our first responders, empowering them to engage effectively with the public, even in situations where mental health issues or distress may not be immediately apparent.

The training was led by esteemed clinical psychologists Dr. Wendy Fernander and Dr. Valerie Knowles. Through their expert guidance, our team learned invaluable tools for recognizing and addressing emotional needs, cultivating a more compassionate and informed approach to their duties.

By investing in this professional development initiative, the Department of Immigration not only strengthens the capabilities of its staff but also enhances the overall quality of service provided to the community. This training reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive, mentally resilient environment, ensuring that our team is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of their roles while promoting the well-being of both staff and the public they serve.
