K9 Certification
On today’s date, the Department of Immigration’s K-9 Unit certified Officers Sheldon Horton, Shiann Bethel and Deaina Simmons of the Grand Bahama district as Decoys and Handlers. This accomplishment made history as Ms. Simmons and Ms. Bethel became the first female K-9 Decoy Officers in the Department of Immigration.* The Department is beaming with pride for all the hard work and discipline that resulted in this noteworthy professional milestone.
Accordingly, Assistant Director Beneby challenged the officers to continue to strive for excellence, not to rest on their laurels and to consistently seek out professional training and skills development opportunities.
*Please note that Jaydawn Turnquest of The Bahamas Customs Department was the first female K-9 Decoy Officer in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Officer Turnquest was trained by the K-9 Unit of The Bahamas Immigration Department in May, 2019.
