Town Meetings in Long Island Address Immigration Issues and Work Permit Compliance
On November 20-21, 2024, the Department of Local Government held town meetings in Simms and Clarence Town, Long Island. In attendance were Mr. Peter Joseph, Assistant Director with responsibility for Family Islands, Ms. Braddesha Lloyd of the Public Relations Unit, Mrs. Jandilee Archer, Family Island Administrator, Mr. Ian Knowles, Chief Councillor and representatives from various government and non-government agencies.
Immigration-related discussions focused on work permit compliance, administrative needs for processing applications, the deployment of Immigration Officers to Long Island. These discussions underscored the importance of strengthening immigration infrastructure in the Family Islands and the need for better coordination between government agencies and local communities to ensure smooth and lawful immigration processes.
